The Juho Vainio Foundation issues grants for scientific research and activities that promote our nation’s public health – in particular, that concerning healthy exercise, physical education and nutrition beneficial to health as well as the development of healthy lifestyles. Grants may be applied for once annually during the month of October. The decisions for the next calendar year regarding grants to be issued are made in December of the application year.
For 2011, the Foundation distributed assets totalling 1,000,000 euros for purposes specified in the rules and regulations. This sum was comprised of 74 grants, whose combined amount totalled 870,000 euros, as well as one special award in honour of life achievement for 30,000 euros, in addition to a donation amounting to 100,000 euros towards the financing of a professorship established at the University of Eastern Finland for the promotion of health.
